We love Western Performance sports.
For this reason, more than any other, we strive to fill every possible need western show enthusiasts might have.

PHILOSOPHY
Tom believes that an effective horse trainer must first be a competent teacher - patient, consistent, and positive while still challenging, motivating, and competitive. There are, of course, two types of students enrolled at Foran Performance Horses - equine and human. And, as in other schools, there are different classes and programs offered. It all depends on the individual enrolled. Let us first consider how we approach training the horse and the different goals an owner might have for him, then let’s consider what we offer for the rider and show person.

EQUESTRIAN TRAINING PROGRAM
In building champion show horses; we employ proven, constructive techniques, which realize the full athletic potential of each equine athlete while maintaining their physical soundness and mental well being. Western Times magazine best described Tom’s program as "Soft and quiet..." In keeping with this, we work to develop each horse’s unique abilities and style without ever trying to muscle one into a fixed, rigid mold. We firmly believe that consistency in training, tiny advances made every day, is the best way to build a solid, healthy, confident horse. Moreover, we offer an advanced feeding program which finishes the look of a world class show horse - fit, well-muscled, with a polished hair coat.

IF YOU ARE . . .
BREEDER/HORSE OWNER
Some individuals are not necessarily interested in showing themselves but like to watch their horses compete for cash, prizes, and notoriety. In the reining and working cow horse industries, there are many events that offer all of this and more.
The classes that are held in the highest esteem and pay the most in money awarded and prizes are the Futurities, Derbies and Open events. For example, the winner of the NRHA Futurity walks away with over $150,000 cash, a new four horse trailer, and tons of other prizes such as bronzes, saddles, buckles, etc. Please take a look at the NRHA, NRCHA, and AQHA websites for more information on shows and awards.
Although, it is always nice to have a shot at taking home all the money and prizes generated by these aged and open events, these winnings are only a small part of the payoff. If a stallion shows well, mare owners will be enticed to breed to him, and if a mare is successful, her sons and daughters will be more sought after and hence valued higher. Also, these top show horses can bring a huge paycheck if the stead is for sale.
Foran Performance Horses has become a Mecca of sorts for some breeders and owners. Tom has recently experienced much success in futurities, derbies, and other open events. Also, several owners have sent horses to us with the sole expectation of having them sold for profit without ever worrying about seeing them show. We have come through for these persons as well.

IF YOU ARE . . .
NEW TO THE HORSE BUSINESS
If having a horse business on the side sounds interesting to you, but you do not have the horse to do it, we can help on this end too. We own and stand an exceptional stallion, Guinness, and are extremely interested in proving his babies in the show pen. His book is currently open to outside mares. If you do not have a mare, we can assist in finding exceptional broodmares for you to lease. If you can’t wait that long, we can locate top yearling or two-year-old prospects that are offered for sale.
Perhaps you want to get in the saddle and do it yourself. We assist riders of all levels to have fun in western performance.

NON-PRO/AMATEUR TRAINING PROGRAM
We take great pride is helping amateurs at all levels to become the best riders and show persons they can be. We believe that only through teaching horsemanship skills and training techniques can a rider become a truly successful showman.

IF YOU ARE . . .
GREEN AS GRASS/BEGINNER RIDER
We have taken people with no previous riding experience, and had them winning reining classes within a year’s time. Some of our beginners have come to us with a horse while others have asked us to locate a horse for them. While we believe that if a student is interested in showing as soon as possible, they should start with a seasoned show horse, many in our barn came to us green with a horse not trained for reining. Although the latter is more difficult, we are willing to teach the rider and horse at the same time. Truly, their is no greater pleasure for us than seeing the joy on a student’s face when they meet an equestrian goal - be it learning to circle their horse at home, or receiving their first good score in a class.

IF YOU ARE . . .
ADVANCED RIDER/OPEN NON PRO
While some top non professional riders keep their show horses in training full time, others haul in for weekly lessons. In both cases, Tom has assisted them in furthering their winnings. Some amateur show persons keep their young horses in training with us so that Tom can get the stead trained and seasoned in the show pen. In this way, the owner can feel confident in knowing the horse’s entire training and health history before they begin to show him.

SUMMARY
The primary goal of our business is to provide every possible phase of showing. Tom’s two and three year old program is highly regarded by top breeders and his peers alike. His ability to keep ring-wise, older show horses lasting season after season is proven by his barn’s recent successes. We’ve done well not only selling high level horses, but also in finding the perfect horse to match a rider. Finally, for those interested in raising a champion, we stand a multiple champion at stud and have exceptional prospects for sale.
